Taking Nigerian soft drinks is a habit many pick up during university days due to a lot of reasons.
I used to be addicted to CocaCola and consciously had to cut down over some years.
I was at an event some days ago and I was so thirsty, I wanted some water. For some reason, there was no water. I tried to buy and water was not available.
The guilt trip came when I had to settle for a bottle of CocaCola. I drank it so hesitantly.
Now for these dreaded diet sodas – diet sodas, cream sodas, bitter lemon, tonic water, and soda water. I term them dreaded.
This is because many are addicted to them and don’t even know it.
Worse are the diet sodas which many more substitute for the regular sodas.
We become addicted to the stuff – the caffeine is one thing but even the caffeine-free is addicting.
Here’s the deal and I’m going to shoot straight from the hip: Diet soda is a chemical cocktail in carbonated water with dye.
Ironically, it leads to weight gain, triggers insulin release, increases risk of Type 2 Diabetes, can lead to headaches, tooth erosion, and even brittle bones (osteoporosis)

Take a week off both these beverages and give your liver a chance to recalibrate.
