The rainy season has fully set in. Are the rains in your area as heavy as mine? Or they fall in trickles?
In any case, rainwater is one source of drinking water in many parts.
There are various sources of potable water – waterworks, spring water, borehole, bottled water, “Nigerian pure water”, and wells. These are commonplace in Northern Nigeria where I live.
During the rainy, season potable water sources may become polluted as the water tables may become turbulent during the rainy season.
It is common to find individuals coming down with stomach upsets, vomiting, and stooling during the rainy season due intake of unsafe water.
Here are some tips for making water that your family and loved ones drink at home safe
Prevention is better than cure. Prevention is cheaper than cure.
1.Boiling (100°C)
2.Filtration ( white cotton cloth)
3.Decantation with alum.
4.Use of water guard (following instructions on the bottle).
5.Use of vegetable/plant.
6.Use of adsorbents like clay and charcoal (mostly in rural areas).
7.Use of water treatment devices.
I will share more on the use of a plant using illustrations:
Water is life, family is everything!
