Only yesterday, I was counselling a mother on the need to increase milk intake for her toddler. She heaved a sigh and said ‘Likita, a mini satchet of milk is now fifty naira. I am not able to afford it.’
I went on to share with her alternatives that every child would love.
I love to take milk. I am fan of milk.
For today’s prototype, I will use rice.
Rice is a staple in many homes and I think everyone loves rice. In fact, I know only one person in this world who doesn’t like rice and that’s my great aunt.
How to prepare Rice Milk:
1. 1 cup rice (brown/white/local/)
3. Sweetener (optional)
Place rice in a bowl and pour water over the top. Soak for 4-6hours.
Drain the water.
Pour the soaked rice into a pan. Add water.
Boil for 5-10 minutes while stirring frequenly.
Remove from heat.
Let stand for 15 minutes and blend.
If the milk is too thick, add some more water to thin it.
Sweeten, if desired.
You can add flavours like vanilla, spices like cinnamon or like I do, cocoa powder.
Serve chilled or warm.
I just finished my cup of rice milk!
I love you, I love your health.
