About that time of the month, I find myself craving Coca-Cola.
On several occasions, I impulsively blurt out “I feel like having Coca-Cola” and my close friends just wink knowingly.
The human body is quite a wonder and was designed to send messages to us. The human body hardly makes mistakes.
Cravings are often viewed as weaknesses, but they are actually important messages meant to help our bodies achieve balance.
When you experience a craving, it is your job to deconstruct it. You must ask yourself what your body wants and why.
Look closely at the foods, deficits and behaviours in your life as the cause of these cravings.
If I was never hooked on Coca-Cola in the first place, I probably would never experience cravings for it.
I know what you are thinking: It is not possible to totally stop cravings. Everyone has them.
You are not totally wrong. It is possible to rid yourself of nagging cravings for comfort food and junk food, but you should always have cravings for healthy food.
How did I get over cravings ?
By slowly reconditioning my mind and body over the course of time, with patience and persistence. It’s not easy, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Trust me, it’s worth it.
In fact, it is one of the most empowering accomplishments to never feel deprived and truly enjoy food.
Steps I took:
1. I drink lots of water. Being properly hydrated is key. If you are not drinking enough water, you can mistake dehydration for hunger which often leads to sugar cravings.
2. I unwind daily. When you are stressed, you are more likely to seek out comfort food. I just love to do things I enjoy doing.
3. I practice mindful eating. Mindful eating is a practice that allows you to tune into your body’s needs and be thoughtful about how you nourish yourself. Stopping to think before you eat is incredibly important.
It is not easy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, and it is worth it.
I will be sharing more on this subsequently. Do keep tabs.
I love your, I love your health.
